Japan in the late phase of the Tokugawa shogunate, 11 criminals sentenced to death are given one last chance to save their lives. In an insane suicide mission, they are to defend the fortress of the Shibata clan from the approaching superiority of the army loyal to the emperor. A fight to the death begins that puts their convictions to the test. Are they only fighting for their own survival or for a higher, righteous goal that is worth dying for?
