Kyoto in the late period of the Tokugawa shogunate. On behalf of his clan elder, Samurai Shaemon embarks on a secret mission of revenge. Just as he crosses his blade in a merciless duel, a lightning strike brings him down. Confused, he wakes up in present-day Japan in a film studio specializing in samurai epics. The pitfalls of modern life overwhelm even the toughest of samurai warriors.
The
Making of
Mirai Eigasha (“Fried Eggs” 2014, “Gohan” 2017) was enthusiastic about the script and determined to turn the material into a feature film. However, he struggled to convince investors to back the project. So it was all the more fortunate when the legendary Toei Kyoto Studio at last stepped in and made the production possible. With “A Samurai In Time”, Eigasha succeeded in creating a humorous genre mix of samurai epic, comedy and time travel adventure.
