Mari Kosugi, a producer at Toto Radio, is assigned by her company to visit the reclusive scriptwriter Kori Yamabuki. Kori lives with Tourette syndrome and struggles deeply with human communication. Though initially uncertain, Mari gradually comes to understand his inner world and a quiet bond of trust begins to form between them. Kori tells her the Story about the Thousand-Year Bathhouse — a mysterious bathhouse said to exist on the boundary between this world and the next. Shortly afterward he vanishes without a trace. All he leaves behind is an ancient instrument known as the Jomon Flute. Guided by the flute, Mari embarks on a journey into the past.
