Hana leads a boring life between work and hobby, until one day she suddenly travels through time to ancient Edo, before the Western powers had opened the country. A fan of historical romances, she imagines herself on a film set and fancies the historical Sakamoto Ryōma, a hero of the Bakumatsu period.
There is a saying in Japan from the Boshin War: "If you win, it was the army, if you lose, it was bandits". Even though Japan's internal wars were long ago, there are still battles for women to fight today: Unequal pay, child care, marriage roles.... The film shows how a modern woman in the Tokugawa period makes her way, but in the end has to realise that winning or losing is not up to her...
