The Lion Dance
Shiawase shishi awase
Yuya's parents live apart, his mother is a nurse and has signed up for a well-paid job during the summer holidays. For the good of the boy. Yuya visits his grandparents in Kagawa, his mother's birthplace, during this time. Every night Yuya is plagued by nightmares in which he is haunted by a blue lion costume. His grandfather knows more about it - he painstakingly makes these costumes by hand and fights tirelessly against the decline of an ancient tradition - the lion dance of Kagawa.
The Lion Dance - if you think of a folklore film, you are completely wrong. The Lion Dance is a declaration of love for old traditions and their spiritual effect, in a time when forgetting has become a threat to an entire society - therefore: Let the lions dance and feel the soothing power that flows from them!
