Hakoniwa
Makoto, a young man who grew up without love from his parents, participates in an experiment to synchronize his brain waves with AGEHA, a transhumanoid equipped with an emotion-healing AI. As he continues his experiments, Makoto begins to move back and forth between reality and fantasy. In the midst of his crumbling values and reality, he begins to face himself and his past once again and struggles to find a spiritual connection.
The
Making of
Wakamatsu Hiroki was born in 1984 in Kagoshima Prefecture. He studied pedagogy and psychology at Tokyo Metropolitan University. Fascinated by filmmaking, which he encountered in a university club, he decided to study abroad in the US to study film after graduation. In 2011, he moved to the U.S. and traveled to Pennsylvania, New York, and New Mexico before studying film at Chapman University, a graduate school in California, in the Department of Directing. After graduation, he returned to Japan in 2017 to reflect on his experiences and clear his mind, and began preparing for the production of Hakoniwa in 2020 to pursue his career as a filmmaker.
