One day, a teenager girl finds an unusual link in her smartphone's chat history. As soon as she clicks on it, a strange device materializes in her room. She promptly finds out that it's a sort wish machine which makes traveling through space and time possible. If a place name is spoken, the owner is teleported to any location in the world. Nevertheless every wish has a price, from each time-space jump to the next, the girl gets lost deeper in the vortex of occurences.
"Torinoko City" is based on the song of the same name by the musician 40mP, who has released numerous cover versions in Japan since 2010. The ambiguous lyrics finally inspired the director Hiroki Yamaguchi in 2017 to a space and time travel fantasy, financed with the help of crowdfunding. Yamaguchi was celebrated at the 17th JFFH in 2016 with his wild genre roller coaster "Bloody Chainsaw Girl". Now he returns with the emotionally loaded coming-of-age drama "Torinoko City". The soundtrack was, of course, composed by 40mP himself.
